Filipino Canadian Association of the Ottawa Valley (FCAOV)

The FCAOV was originally named the Filipino Association of Ottawa. It was founded by Filipino immigrants in 1966 and was the first Filipino Association which addressed concerns of new immigrants to the Ottawa area. Now chaired by the current President Mel Tabalba since 2000, the FCAOV is now actively involved in promoting sporting, social, cultural and pastoral activities within the Filipino community.

Some of their activities include: raising funds for the Philippines during national disasters, hosting a bi-annual New Year's Eve celebration, engaging in tri-city events (Montreal, Kingston & Ottawa) as well as working closely with the Philippine Embassy to address issues concerning new immigrants.

Recently the FCAOV has been working with seniors and Pastoral Associations toward forging partnerships in order to continue to foster friendship and well-being in its adopted country. In 2007, they began helping the newly-formed San Lorenzo Ruiz Knights of Columbus from Assumption Parish in their efforts to raise funds for the Parish and for local charities.

Ilocano Ngarud Society

Why we call our group Ilocano Ngarud Society of Ottawa:
Ilocano Ngarud Society of Ottawa, was chosen to be our organization's name by the Board and members because NGARUD is the most common word used by many Ilocanos in the Philippines. And since we are all Ilocanos who are presently residing here in Ottawa, we put it all together to be one Society group.

Ilocano is a dialect of the Pilipino language and those in the society are all of the bloodline of the Ilocanos. The Ottawa Ilocano society has celebrated their first anniversary in the spring of 2007 and is now 260 members strong.
